First Read of the Year
The Humans – Matt Haig
I got The Humans for Christmas because I love Matt Haig so much, and I think the review for this one is the longest I’ve even raved about a book on. As a sci-fi, comedy, and just about every other genre book, it was so out there and definitely not what I expected.
I feel like it set the tone for my reading for the year so far, in the sense that I read it in a day and that it made my taste in books drastically change.
Made Me Laugh
The Undomestic Goddess – Sophie Kinsella
This is one of my most recent reads and it’s definitely the funniest book I’ve read all year. I actually didn’t expect it to be as funny as it was, but I was addicted from the first page.
I’m definitely going to be reading more of Sophie Kinsella’s books this year, especially since I’ve already got the first three books in her Shopoholic series.
Made Me Cry
A Place Called Here – Cecelia Ahern
I completely didn’t expect to find myself crying at this one. To be honest, if it had been written by anyone else, I wouldn’t have picked it up from the blurb because the plot seems quite odd and not something that I’d enjoy reading. But I sobbed at this one. It’s so gripping and emotional.
Out of my Comfort Zone
Caraval – Stephanie Garber
I got this one in a blind book box I was given for Christmas and was unsure at first. I don’t read YA Fantasy at all and really didn’t know how I felt at all about reading this one. But once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down! It completely changed my views on Fantasy and made me more open to the idea of branching out and reading mor Fantasy.
My DNF List So Far
I’ve tried really hard this year to not DNF books but it still somehow happened. So far this year I’ve DNF’d:
- The Hate U Give – Angie Thomas
- Aftercare Instructions – Bonnie Pipkin
I feel like this is actually really good for me as usually I’ve got a massive DNF pile because I just can’t be bothered to stick with books I’m not enjoying and put them to the side straight away.
Goals For The Next 6 Months
- Keep my DNF list tiny!
- Actually read the books on my TBR shelf
- Read something that I wouldn’t usually pick up
What have you read lately that I need to put on my TBR. Let me know!

As I said on Twitter yesterday I think you’d like Happiness for Humans, I’m loving it so far.
