I love reading cheesy romances. Those sorts that are like a fairytale and always have a happy ending where the two people get together. They’re my thing! But I also find myself feeling quite embarrassed by the fact that I like them. But there’s no shame in the fact that I choose to read romance.

So here’s why I love reading it:

1. Escapism

Romances are the perfect escapism. Most people turn to dystopia and fantasy to escape the world, but I turn to romance. It’s nice to read a story where everything is happy as a way to escape the world at the moment. I’d rather read a happy romance than read a dystopia or fantasy which is getting scarily close to the real world now.

2. Fairytales

Fairytales are the gateway to the book world. They’re what you first hear and read, and I can guarantee everyone knows at least three. I love fairytales because they always get their happy ending, so that’s what I love in a romance. I love how everything wraps up in the end and they will always end on a positive note.

3. No Cliff-Hangers

I love a good cliff-hanger at the end of a book as much as the next person, but I hardly ever commit myself to a full series. Most romances are stand-alone novels which means the ending is always a nice final ending with no cliff-hangers that are going to bug me.

4. Easy Reads

I love reading books on serious subjects that are beefy and take a while to get through. But after I’ve read only them for a while, I’m always ready for a quicker, easier read which is when I turn to romance. It makes a nice change from serious topics and it’s definitely not as emotionally draining.

5. To Cheer Up

Romances are always happy books, which is often just what I need, especially after being at work. They’re cheerful reads and like in my last point, aren’t as emotionally draining as other genres.

  1. I actually don’t read them! But, I should since they are a good escape. I’ll add some to my ‘Must Read’ list on GoodReads.com.

  2. I love a good romance! They make you feel content; it’s the perfect genre if you’re in the need of a wind-down. I recently read A Home at the Honeysuckle Farm and I would recommend…it’s predictable but light and easy

  3. Oh I LOVE romance! I am usually less talkative one with my nose in book most of the time. People think ‘oh she is shy, or antisocial and whatnot’! but the truth is books are best and to escape these are the best portals!! Romance books just makes a day 🙂

    1. If you’re looking for a romance that’s different, I’d definitely say Attachments by Rainbow Rowell! It’s not like any other romance I’ve read and it’s a really nice short read!
