They say ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ but I’m definitely guilty of that! I love book covers, and they are mainly what makes me buy the book. This means that I’ve got plenty of books with beautiful covers, and here’s all of my favourites!
How To Stop Time – Matt Haig (Illustrated by Chris Riddell)
I’m awful for having multiple copies of the same book thanks to special editions, but this was one that I couldn’t turn down. Riddell remakes the original cover in his style, and it’s just perfect. I also love how the whole cover is red rather than blue – I feel that it fits the story much better.
The Binding – Bridget Collins
Did I buy this because of the cover? Definitely, and I’m not ashamed. I love that it looks just like an old book, and even the spine looks amazing. Okay, the colours are a bit dull compared to everything else on this list, but honestly, how can anyone walk past a book that looks anything like this?!
Poems to Live Your Life By – Chris Riddell
This is the second book illustrated by Chris Riddell to make it onto this list. I promise I’m not biased at all! I love the look of this book, and I also love anything shiny!
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman (Waterstones Exclusive)
Another one I’m guilty of owning multiple copies, and even though I love the original cover, this Waterstones Exclusive is amazing. It’s shiny, got so many tiny details, and the colours are just amazing!
Rebecca – Daphne du Maurier
I’ve got to say, I hated this cover when I studied this at A Level, but I’ve slowly grown to love it. Although my copy is beginning to get quite tatty, the cover still looks as beautiful as ever.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – Lewis Carroll
I own too many copies of this – one day I’ll count! – but this one is my absolute favourite. It’s so bright and although it isn’t Tenniel’s original illustrations, I love this!
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue – Mackenzie Lee
I’m not sure why I love this cover so much, because it definitely isn’t like anything else in this list – it doesn’t even have anything shiny on it! I think I just like it because the cover works so well for the book, and it’s such a good fit.
Almost Midnight – Rainbow Rowell
If you can see the picture, then I’m guessing you can tell why this is one of my favourites. It’s cloth bound and the cover is all glittery! Plus, I absolutely love the colours. For a tiny book, the cover packs a punch!
Matilda – Roald Dahl
It took me ages to pick which copy of this was my favourite, especially thanks to the 30th-anniversary editions. But I love this one – Matilda is all grown up and she’s a librarian! I just have been a Magpie in a past life because yet again, this one is shiny!
Furiously Happy – Jenny Lawson
Do I have to explain why I love this cover so much? There’s a crazy looking taxidermy racoon on the cover, and it’s shiny! I’m sure you can understand!
